An update regarding the February 22, 2012 Event with guest speaker Sen. Rick Santorum

We would like to update you regarding the Tucson Tea Party event scheduled for Wednesday, February 22, 2012 with a guest apparance by Presidential candidate Senator Rick Santorum.

Here are the details:

Time: Doors Open shortly before 10 am. Come early as seating is limited (room for approximately 450.) Event runs until 1:15. The Senator will speak inside at noon.Candidates for Congressional Districts 8, 7, and 1 will be speaking before Senator Santorum. Candidates will be gathering signatures for their nominating petitions outside the event.

Note: Sen. Santorum is not intending to speak outside, for security reasons. When we reach building capacity, no other guests will be permitted in the building. If you were considering showing up after the event starts, for his speech only, you are not likely to be able to enter the building.

Note: Weapons will not be permitted inside the Sabbar Shrine. TTP security, Senator Santorum's security, and Tucson police, will be present to assure a safe event. We are located within 1000 ft. of a school. Significant additional federal penalities apply here for improper use of a firearm.

There is parking available in the shrine parking lots and along E. 15th Street, south of the Sabbar Shrine. There is also a local church next to the Shrine that will be permitting private parking for a cost of $5.00. This charged parking is not a function of the Tucson Tea Party. No proceeds from this church parking benefit the tucson Tea Party. We encourage you to car pool, and save yourself the additional Obama inflation tax on gasoline. lol.

Tucson Tea Party members get slapped!

Rhonda Bodfield, a reporter with the Arizona Daily star, reported Sunday comments that Pima County Democrat party boss Jeff Rodgers made about Tucson Tea Party Members, painting us as "some of the most extreme right-wing elements of the Republican Party". I'm posting here, my reply to Ms. Bodfield, in defense of our group. I hope that you, the Tucson Tea Party members, approve.

(as written)While it concerns me, it does not surprise me, that the chairman of the Pima County Democratic Party, Jeff Rodgers, would use the announcement of a change in the leadership of the Tucson Tea Party as an opportunity to roundly insult our Tucson Tea Party members. I know these people to be responsible members of our local community. Many are parents, grandparents, and church members. All have a vested interest in the success of our community. They love this city, this state, and this country. However, I do understand that Jeff is simply doing his job as a mouthpiece for Harry Reid. Jeff Rodger’s “Chicago style” attack on our Tucson Tea Party members only serves to deflect attention from his support for the shameless attack launched on our religious institutions by Jeff’s party boss, President Barack Obama. I would implore any member of the Democratic Party who feel abandoned by Jeff Rodgers and his Socialist/Progressive cohorts, and who feel strongly that government spending is out of control, to join with other like minded individuals, as a member of the Tucson Tea Party.
These words of our greatest President speak to the importance of our struggle against the tyranny of our current administrations excessive spending, excessive regulation, and intrusion into the lives of ordinary Americans.

Wednesday Dec. 28th Food Drive in Veinte de Agosto and De Anza parks

On Wednesday December 28th, Take Care of Tucson will be holding a community food drive that will take place from 4-7 PM at two parks near downtown.

They will be collecting food for the Community Food Bank, Cold Wet Noses, Hermitage Cat Shelter and the Humane Society. Volunteers from Trinity of Angels, a non-profit for abused spouses and children will be on hand to help accept donations.

Please help our community in its greatest time of need by dropping off canned and packaged goods at one of the two following locations on December 28 between 4-7 PM.

"Occupy" Tucson? We ARE Tucson!

Over the past few weeks many of us have watched with bemused interest the Wall Street "occupation" and have shaken our heads at the sense of entitlement, logical incoherence, and in some cases, the outright racism coming from it's attendees. You can visit ttpdaily.com to see an example of this poor behavior on display. It has been obvious that the media microscope used to examine the hundreds of thousands of Tea Party participants nationwide has been placed in the closet when it comes to these two thousand "occupiers."

On October 15th Tucson will see our very own "Occupy Tucson" protest. The groups location for the protest, for some inexplicable reason, will be at the base of the Pancho Villa statue downtown. Nice imagery considering Pancho Villa has become legendary for many things, one of them being his brutality that left a swath of destruction and death on America's borders due to his raids.

Many have emailed or contacted TTP to suggest a counter protest. We think that would be a mistake. Tucson is home to all of us and our families. We don't "occupy" this city, as they intend to do, we live here and ARE active members of the greater Tucson area. The word "occupy" evokes images of hostility and militaristic suppression by outsiders. We ARE Tucson.

This does not mean we plan to sit by and do nothing. We plan to spend October 15th very busily engaged or to remain "occupied" by and for good things in OUR town. We are serious about this and urge you to participate in this silent, but much more effective "occupation". Not only will it send the right message to our community, it will benefit our friends and neighbors. We have made a post on the ttpdaily.com blog and would love it if you have any ideas or suggestions for "occupations" to post them there.

Here are a few ways we suggest you spend your time actively engaged or "occupied" in Tucson on the 15th:

1. Simply wear your TTP shirt all day. Wear it to Tucson Meet Yourself and support the small groups and organizations at that event. Several hundred people identifying themselves with our movement but acting normally will provide a nice contrast to the circus of the "occupy" movement.

2. Volunteer your time for the City Council Candidates. Let's face it, for far too long Tucson has already been "occupied" by those who seek to mire it in scandal and financial ruin. Go walk for a candidate or make calls. It's easy, really and needs to be done. For some volunteer options call Greg at Pima County GOP Headquarters at 321-1492.

3. Volunteer your time for a church or youth organization.

4. Pick up trash with your family in your neighborhood.

5. Volunteer at the Community Food Bank or do a collection for canned goods in your neighborhood with your family.

6. Tell us your suggestions at ttpdaily.com.

This is our home and we refuse to be forced to only "occupy" it. WE ARE TUCSON and will continue to remain politically active in order to make sure that all of our voices are heard!

* The Arizona Daily Star emailed us and said they couldn't show up. Not that we needed a reminder, but we are now very aware that they are no longer interested in reporting legitimate news that affects this community.

Our work is not done. Last night our brave "whistle blower" ATF Agent Cefalu said that if we the people cannot have the Congress we elected hold those who mishandled this operation accountable then there is no point to government. We need to forward this email and make sure that all of those we come into contact with know about this scandal and the deaths and destruction left in it's wake.

Thank you Representative Gosar for attending and speaking last night, but please take our message to the rest of the Oversight Committee in Washington and tell them that this "operation" (scandal) needs to be completely investigated and accountability needs to be dealt out in strong doses to those responsible.

Thank you to Sheriff Paul Babeu and Agent Cefalu for your insight, courage and continued service to our country.

Remember that a government is only as the strong or effective as the people it governs. We hope you remain strong and mobilize in your communities and neighborhoods to lift and work where you are needed.

TTP CALLS ON ARIZONA INSTITUTE FOR CIVIL DISCOURSE TO DENOUNCE HOFFA COMMENTS

The Tucson Tea Party calls on the National Institute for Civil Discourse, also based in Tucson Arizona, to denounce the violence-inciting comments directed at Tea Party members made by Teamsters Union President Jimmy Hoffa in a speech he gave at a Labor Day campaign rally for President Barack Obama.

Hoffa said that unions need to pick fights with Tea Parties and Congressional Republicans. He further went on to say,““The war on workers, and you see it everywhere, it [sic] is the Tea Party . . .President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these son of a bitches [sic] out . . .”

Trent Humphries Organizer for the Tucson Tea Party said “If the National Institute for Civil Discourse is to have any legitimacy at all, this is the type of thing they need to focus on. By not doing so, calls into question the very reason for their existence. Either they focus on all comments, even from those they consider their political allies, or they need dispense with any claim to non-partisanship and reimburse any financial help provided by the University of Arizona.”

President Obama, who was in attendance at the Labor Day rally, spoke at a Memorial Service in Tucson after the tragic shootings of January 8th and said the following,”But at a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized - at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do - it's important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.”

President Obama has had no comment on the words spoken right before he too delivered a speech.

September 26th TTP Fast and Furious Town Hall

The Tucson Tea Party will be hosting a Town Hall discussing the facts surrounding the Federal Government's "Fast and Furious" gun-running program.

We have invited Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona's 1st District, who is on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform which is investigating the "Fast and Furious" program. We will also be honored to host a well known Fast and Furious whistle blower who is helping to shine a light on ATF failures in this and other cases, and receiving endless reprisals because of it (which is why we are not pre-announcing his name publicly.) Both are very knowledgeable and well versed to speak on this issue.

Anyone Up For A Protest?

There's a lot going on, and I think now is a good time to remind a few people that the Tea Party era of truth, responsibility, and accountability is not going to go away. Yesterday at the inaugural meeting of the Tucson chapter of the Progressive Democrats of America (nothing says grassroots like an organization founded by politicians,) National Advisory board Raul Grijalva spoke to the gathering.

"Insisting that a majority of Americans support progressive values, Grijalva predicted the new crop of conservatives will overreach. "The euphoria of the tea party is short-lived," he said to applause."

It appears that Mr. Grijalva needs a reminder of what the majority of Americans support and voted for in 2010.

In response, I propose that we convene a meeting in order to relay a "civil" response to Mr. Grijalva's foolishness and provide a counter response to some of the other issues embarrassing good Tucsonans.

In a further show of goodwill and civility, we propose that we hold our gathering at the corner of Speedway and Tucson Blvd. That way Grijalva's paid supporters can just walk over from the SEIU building rather than having to fire up the big gas-guzzling buses in order to counter-protest (gas is expensive nowadays. . .)

Event: Inaugural meeting of the Tucson Tea Party Institute for Truthful, Open, Civil but Firm Discourse wherein we promise to be kind and loving to all creatures; Oh, and pick up our trash afterwards....

Time: This Friday, February 25th from 4:00pm to 6:30pm

Place: the corner of Speedway and Tucson Blvd

Himmel Park is nearby, so there should be ample parking in that area. Be sure not to tie up business parking.

The inaugural meeting of the Tucson chapter of the Progressive Democrats of America had about 300, which I believe we can eclipse on three days notice. Because we also want to demonstrate to Mr. Grijalva that real grassroots organizations don't preprint their signs, we want to be sure that we publicize any sign making parties that anyone wants to hold. Let us know, and we will share the information. We would ask, however, that you don't publicize such meetings at your home residence because in the new age of "civility," protesting at peoples homes is acceptable for Progressives.

We also want to stress that this event is open to all organizations that have an interest in balancing the political exploitation that we are bombarded with daily here in Tucson. We will get the ball in motion, anyone interested is encouraged to join us.

We want everyone to show up, be smart, and continue to demonstrate the grace and power that has characterized all of your actions for the past two years. Mr. Grijalva opened the door. Let's demonstrate just how many people were knocking. . .

Jeff Prather from Warrior School has agreed to teach a class for members of TTP. He brings years of experience and first hand training to this seminar. He will teach personal strategies such as everyday situational awareness and go over tips and strategies to help each one of us contribute to making sure that our large events continue to be fun, informational, and safe.

April 29th Tucson Tea Party University

We are pleased to announce Dr. Larry Schweikart as one of Tucson Tea Party's featured speakers on April 30th at the Demeester Outdoor Performance Center. In addition, Dr. Schweikart has agreed to hold a seminar for Tucson Tea Party members in the evening on April 29th.

Dr. Schweikart is a professor at Dayton Univeristy and the author of dozens of books. His most recent book a Patriot's History is a New York Times bestseller. He has appeared on the Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck shows and taught Glen Beck University courses.

Dr. Schweikart will talk about "American exceptionalism" and also about the bias of textbooks as discussed in his book, 48 Liberal Lies. He will also talk about his book Seven Events That Made America America and the creation of the party system and the role rock music had in bringing down the Iron Curtain.

This is going to be awesome!

Join TTP and community experts for an important discussion on personal accountability, courage and leadership.

Since the tragedy on Jan 8th many have asked the question, "What can I do to keep things like this from happening in our community?" We hope to have some proactive answers. Our experts will discuss practical ways that can can identify at-risk youth and other commuinity members and how to handle situations that may arise that may have been ignored in the past. We will try to fill in the gaps that the media, for the most part, let fall through the cracks in their rush to make this tragedy political.

The emphasis on this event is to heal and empower and, once again, bring truth and focus to the real and important issues that face our community.

We are incredibly saddened by the evil and atrocious violence that was inflicted on our community this morning. The shooting of Representative Gabrielle Giffords and other innocent people is not to be condoned.

Our prayers go out to Representative Giffords and all of the people who were injured or lost today. Our hope is that as a community we can heal and help those who were hurt by this terrible tragedy.

The Tucson Weekly just announced the top three advocacy/activist groups in Tucson. The Tucson Tea Party was named number three.
